Riders in Liverpool pay over 700k in speeding fines
Motorcycle riders in Liverpool and the surrounding areas are being targeted by police in the North West as part of a crackdown on speeding this Spring.
Already this year over £700,000 has been added to the speeding camera coffers from bikers in the North West after police were seen day after day, hour after hour on some of the best biking roads in the area.
On the A565, the main road between Liverpool and Southport. as many as 20 police offers have been pulling in bikers who they suspect have been speeding, or making some other misdemeanor. Such as breathing. Our reporter saw 7 bikes pulled in at one stage!
Clearly we all agree that speeding in the wrong area is a bad thing, but some of the places we have heard that the police are waiting to capture speeding bikers are just ridiculous. There are roads that get less than 30 cars in an hour and are great biking roads, yet these are exactly the types of area that the cameras are waiting in.
As if the poor motorist isnt being hit hard enough by our government, now we are being stalked by the boys in blue for having a bit of fun.

Kawasaki KR1-S
So I've waited 15 years to get another one, but today I put down a deposit on my long awaited replacement for the first ever 'proper' motorbike I ever owned - the awesome Kawasaki KR1-S.
When I were a young 18 year old lad, fresh off of my Kawasaki KMX 125 and with full licence in hand, I got straight over to Kawasaki Peterborough and got a loan for my KR1-S. I remember picking it up and riding it for the first time. It was a feeling I've never yet managed to emulate. The nothing, nothing, nothing in power upto 8000 revs and then it came alive, kicking you towards the redline whilst screaming its head off. The smell of the 2 stroke on my clothes after every time I rode it was like nothing else, I felt at one with the bike and it felt like it had sole. I loved that bike.
Unfortunately, the coffin dodger that decided to do a u-turn in front of me didn't like it so much and wrote it offer after barely a month of me owning it. Still, I probably would have blown it up anyway after not too much longer as every other KR1-s in the World seemed to be seized up somewhere and knackered.
Apart from my new one. Let me tell you....
Its a 1993 model with just 7,000 miles, yes 7,000 genuine miles on. No sign its been raced, everything is original, even the tools under the spare seat (you can't really call it a passenger seat) and I've seen every MOT since it was born. A grand total of just over 1000 miles have been ridden whilst in the care of my new Welsh friend that I bought it from who has owned it 3 years. Its my favourite colours, black and green and it starts first time with no rattle or unduly worrying smoke. I managed to get it on Fleabay for the princely price of £2300, which I consider to be a total bargain.
It's unlikely I will ever ride it, other than the 40 mile journey home next week when I pick it up, and apart from starting it once a week to keep it ticking over I will keep it on paddock stands in the garage, where it will sit and wait for me to smile every time I open the garage door.
Those days in the early 90's were great. Sadly 2 of the friends I also shared the enthusiasm with are no more and its probably for this reason that I wanted a memory of days gone by, just to keep the memory of being young, free and irresponsible.
I'm now looking for a mint and original KMX 125, so if you know of one, let me know on here.....

Alex Stone
According to a report published today by a leading research house its being claimed that our own founder, Alex Stone, has changed the whole way in which motorbike insurance is sold today.
The report, created by Biking News states that 'Motorbike insurance premiums have dropped by over 20% in the previous 24 months, largely because of the risk in price comparison websites, a penomenon created by Alex Stone, the entrepreneur owner of The Bike Insurer.'
Biking News go on to discuss their findings into the state of the UK motorbike insurance market and their further findings include such statements as;
'Alex Stone started the price comparison site trend in the UK. His company are responsible for over 60% of the new business that is sold by some of the broker panel on The Bike Insurer...'
'Brokers are now being forced to reduce commission and fees on motorbike insurance policies more than ever. We see this as a good thing for the riding public...'
'Why did it take price comparison websites so long to launch for motorbike insurance when they had been established for over 5 years in the car market?'
Commenting on this report, Alex Stone says "I'm naturally delighted to be credited with the drop in insurance premiums, although I am a very small cog in a very big wheel. Yes, creating bike insurance comparisons was my idea but its the team around me who make it possible for so many riders to save money. We have a panel of over 20 insurance brokers, each of which specialise in a certain area of the bike market. Whilst I don't agree that price comparison sites alone have forced down the cost of motorbike insurance, I do think that with brokers jostling for market share, naturally price is always seen as an important factor and when there are so many brokers offering very similar products, the consumer often prefers to insure with the cheapest broker, particularly in today's uncertain economic climate. If this means brokers offer discounts then so be it"

Moped registrations up year on year
At a time when there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the UK economy, households look set to tighten the purse string in the coming months.
With fuel prices at a record high, the congestion charge being so expensive and public transport being little more than a severely delayed waste of time, more and more people are turning to mopeds as a serious form of transport to save both time and money.
Official figures just released by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) show that registrations of mopeds were up 4.3% in March 2008 against the same month from 2007 and 3.3% overall in the first quarter of 2008. Given the changeable weather conditions in the early part of this year compared to the almost tropical heat enjoyed early in 2007, this is an encouraging result.
The manufacturer with the biggest sales in March 2008 was Honda, which was followed by Suzuki and then Yamaha.
To get your moped insurance quote use The Bike Insurer to compare prices and pick your best deal from over 20 insurance brokers.
