There are a lot of people who talk about saving the environment, going green, being eco-friendly, reducing green house emissions, etc... However, talk is cheap, in fact all the talk probably just adds to the problem, adding additional noise pollution and hot air proceeding out of the mouths of the big talkers. One company is doing more than just talking about saving the environment, Quantya is offering an eco-friendly solution to motorcycling with their electric motorcycles.

In 2005, Quantya SA was established to develop and build electric motorbikes and scooters to accommodate individuals who are concerned about the environment. These Swiss made electric bikes were developed for recreation and for transportation purposes of an eco-conscious generation.
Quantya was a creation of Max Modena, who was a lover of motocross and lived in Switzerland. At the banning of the loud two-stroke engines by the Swiss, Max realized an opportunity. Max saw an opportunity to develop an electric motorcycle that would not only run quiet, but would not give off harmful emissions either. His vision was to create a bike that was not like the dull, lethargic electric motorcycles that were already in use, but a bike that would be exciting and fun to ride, so the work begun.
Quantya, in 2007 received the international TUV authorization to release a street legal version of their electric motorcycle in Europe. Then they received the VCA certificate as a manufacturer of motor vehicles. In the middle of 2007, Quantya's first batch of motorcycles hit the market, since that first batch a street legal version has come out.

The TVS Flame DS 125 is powered by a 125cc, three-valve engine that is fired by twin sparks. This 125cc three-valve engine was developed with AVL Austria and its performance is linked to an ideal swirl-tumble port combo that provides high fuel efficiency while at the same time improving low to mid range power.
The enhanced fuel efficiency and power is enhanced by two different intake ports, the swirl port and the tumble port. Inside the swirl port, there is a swirling of air-fuel mixture created within the combustion chamber. This swirling movement enables productive combustion of lean air-fuel combination, which provides the maximum fuel economy within its category. The power of TVS Flame DS 125 is enhanced by the tumble port that gives a high flow rate, which helps in the power delivery.
Some of the key features of the TVS Flame DS 125 are 10.5 bhp at 7500 rpm, top speed of 95 kmph, 240mm front disc brake, triangular exhaust, embedded turning signals, headlight equipped with two position lamps, electric start, and a duel lens tail light.
The TVS Flame DS 125 is unique in the fact that it is the only motorcycle in the country to have three valves and two spark plugs. This TVS Flame is available in duel tone colours of red and black and is priced at Rs49,200.
Bike troubleshooting - part 3
Trouble Shooting Your Motorcycle, the Basics-Step 3
We have been talking about some basic things that you can check on your motorcycle if it is not running properly. In our first installment we covered fuel related problems, in our second piece we looked at the air supply to the engine, now we would like to consider the third basic thing that you should check if you are trouble shooting your bike, the spark.
Compare motorbike insurance with The Bike Insurer
As I have mentioned in previous articles, an engine has to have essential components in order to run, fuel, air, and a spark. The spark is what causes the fuel to ignite, which in turns makes the engine come to life. The first thing to check when checking the spark on your bike is obvious, it is the spark plugs. In order to check the spark plugs you will need to remove them from the engine. On some bikes you may need to remove the fuel tank first to get to the spark plugs. Once you remove the plugs you should inspect them, all of the plugs should look the same. Some things to look for are; a plug with a white look to it (this could signify that a cylinder is not getting the proper amount of fuel), a plug with a wet or black look to it (this may mean that the cylinder is getting too much fuel or not sparking properly). After inspecting the plugs, place the wires back on the plugs and place them on the engine so that they will be grounded and crank the engine and watch how each plug sparks. It can be helpful if you do this step in the dark. If a plug has a weak spark or is not sparking at all, check the wire and the plug and if they are worn or damaged replace the part. If you are not getting any spark at all to your plugs, you may have a bad coil; you can check your coil with an ohm meter.
This is the third and final installment of "Trouble Shooting Your Motorcycle", if you do these steps and are still having problems you want to consider taking your bike to a professional mechanic.
