Alcohol limit to be reduced for riders
According to breaking news, alcohol limits are about to be reduced for riders in Northern Ireland.
Proposals are in from Northern Ireland minister, Arlene Foster, concerning reducing alcohol levels to lower than that of the level for car drivers.
The new limit, if passed will only allow 20mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and this effectively means that after just the equivilent to half a pint of lager, riders will be over the legal limit. This basically means there is an outright ban on drink riding, which we think is a great thing.
Commenting on the new limit, a spokesperson for NI's Dept of the Environment said that effectively that motorcyclists are at greater risk after a drink than car drivers and this new limit would reduce the exposure to risk presented by motorcyclists that drink ride.
Given the skill and dedication needed to ride any one of the current day sportsbikes, we agree that this is a great thing that will save riders lives.
I just got a bike insurance quote based on an average rider living in Belfast with and without a drink driving conviction and the price difference was over £1000 so even more reason to stick within the proposed new limit.
