As the new 2011 season fast approaches, the newly formed Aye Gee Suzuki Team by HMR based at Hampshire Motorcycles, Waterlooville, will be running two riders in this years’ 2011 Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship. The two young riders are up and coming prospects and both secured good results in the 600 Superstock Championship in 2010.
The first rider is 19-year-old Scottish rider Adam Lyon, Adam who lives just above Glasgow in Helensburgh is a former Minimoto and Scottish 125 Champion and finished in sixth place in the overall Superstock 600 Championship in 2010 after securing two podium finishes in the closing stages of the season is the first of the two riders who has joined the Suzuki team.
Adam commented "When I was offered the place at Aye Gee Suzuki, onboard the all new GSXR 600, I knew it was a great opportunity and I had to grab it with both hands! Racing was looking very unlikely for 2011 but the help and support from Dave Tyson and Tony Morris, I now have a brilliant chance to fight for the 2011 title on what appears to be a very competitive bike.
We’ve had a good testing program and got a strong feel for the bike and got a good set up, and we’ll be hitting Brands with a fighting chance of doing well! I can’t thank my friends and family enough for all the support as I really did struggle to see me riding this year. But with opportunity given to me, I will be on my best form from the word go and show everyone that we will be title contenders."
The second rider is 21-year-old Josh Wainwright from Sidcup in Kent, Josh a former MRO Champion has competed in the National Superstock 600 Championships in 2009 and 2010 securing 10th position overall last year. Both riders are young and eager to get good results during the 2011 season and are keen to get started at the first round at Brands Hatch on Easter Weekend.
Josh is excited about the prospect of riding for the Aye Gee Suzuki Team saying "I have known Jim at Aye Gee Motorcycles for many years an he has helped me with clothing for racing which is a huge help for any racer as we all have very tight budgets and every little bit helps massively, so to actually be riding for their team in 2011 is great opportunity for me. I can’t wait to get to the first round!
After some testing over the last few weeks we made big steps forward and it has put all our minds at ease with what we will be able to achieve on the Suzuki GSXR 600. The bike is awesome and I can’t wait to get the final product and to get out racing at Brands on Easter Weekend."
Team Principals Tony Morris and Dave Tyson are very pleased with their two signings and looking forward to competing in the National Superstock 600 Championship with support and help from the factory Suzuki team who have helped with advice and set up so far.
They said "We have been able sign two of the top riders from last season and with the arrival of the new Suzuki GSXR600 we are sure that we will be at Brands with a very competitive package. The first run out on the bike at Brands last Monday went really well even though we were on a fairly close to road bike trim both the GSXR and Josh showed plenty of promise.
We know have to get the bikes speed up and ready for testing in Spain in three weeks and then to the first round straight after. We’re very excited about the forthcoming season and we can’t wait to see the boys progress over the season and get some strong results."
