According to an interview he gave with an Italian paper, Max Biaggi believes that Valentino Rossi may well have made a mistake in thinking he could do as well at Ducati as Casey Stoner. Biaggi, renowned for his infamous MotoGP rivalry with Rossi, said that the Italian may well have ‘underestimated’ how difficult the task with Ducati would be;
‘Stoner was the only one capable of riding that bike in spectacular fashion. Rossi underestimated the talent of Stoner, thinking he could do better. He made an error of judgement but it is easy to make errors of judgement. Rossi will now have to start trying to convince, returning to the performance he did before.’
Biaggi has recently made the decision to bow out of racing after taking the 2012 World Superbike title, while Rossi has ended his MotoGP relationship with Ducati, returning to Yamaha for the 2013 season. All that remains is to watch this space to see if Rossi can return to winning ways.
