Bike troubleshooting - step 2
Trouble Shooting Your Motorcycle, the Basics-Step Two
In our last instalment of trouble shooting your motorcycle we talked about potential fuel related problems; in this instalment we would like to talk about another problem to check for if your bike is not running right. There are three things that all motorcycles need in order to run properly, fuel, air, and a spark; I would like to elaborate on how to make sure your motorcycle engine is getting enough air.

If your bike is long overdue a maintenance job (which could pose a problem itself), you should check and see if the carbs are synchronized. In order to do this test you will need a vacuum gauge that is specially made for this task. To perform this test on your bike, first remove the small rubber plug that is situated between the carbs and the cylinder. Then you take the gauge, attach it, and take readings from each of the cylinders. After getting the readings, adjust the throttle screw or the linkage for that particular carb until they all read close to the same. In checking the cylinders, if one cylinder appeared to be rich or lean, be sure to check all hoses for cracks and air leaks. Additionally, make sure you replace the caps when you are through checking your cylinders or the engine will not run properly.
In the next and final instalment of Trouble Shooting Your Motorcycle" we will discuss how to check to see if the spark element is working properly on your bike. Until then, happy biking.
