BMW Motorrad Motorsports Getting Ready for 2011 Season

Sunday, November 21 2010

Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport is continuing on their preparations for the upcoming 2011 World Superbike Championship. Team BMW riders Troy Corser and Leon Haslam recently spent an afternoon in a wind tunnel at the BMW Group’s facilities in Munich, Germany. The goal of the wind tunnel activity was to optimise the riding positions of the two riders from an aerodynamic perspective on their BMW machines. As the riders faced simulated speeds that reached up to 240km per hour, they shifted their body into several different positions and experimented with different angles in an attempt to discover the position and angle that would produce the minimum amount of drag as they rocket around the track.

Additionally, the BMW team worked on the aerodynamic optimisation of the wind shield of the 2011 BMW S 1000 RR, attempting to make the wind shield as aerodynamically efficient as possible. The information collected will undergo a thorough analysis, and the findings of the data will be used in preparing the machine for next test to be held in Jerez at the end of November.

Troy and Leon are proceeding with their physical training for the next season at the BMW fitness camp. The two riders are joined at the camp other Team BMW riders James Toseland, Ayrton Badovini, with BMW off-road racers as well.
