From January 2012, all new BMW motorcycles will be fitted with a theft deterrent system as standard. BMW Motorrad has joined forces with Datatag, a leading provider of security marking solutions, to give BMW motorcycle owners an additional level of protection from theft, absolutely free.
Datatag’s advanced system enables the identification of stolen motorcycles and parts and thus makes BMW motorcycles less attractive to criminals as any stolen bikes or parts would be quickly and easily identifiable to the police.
The system has four layers of security: near-invisible ultra-violet etching, hidden RFID transponder tags, microscopic coded number dots and tamper-proof Datatag markings to provide a visual theft deterrent. Therefore, Datatag is one of only a few security marking systems which are fully approved by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre and the Association of Chief Police Officers.

I have always fitted datatag to my machines ever since the Met Police guys told me it was the cheapest and most effective way to prevent theft – and guess what? Even parking in London, the highest theft risk area, for the last ten years almost every day I’ve not lost a single bike! makes you think eh?
