Cal Crutchlow Leads the Field

Yamaha Sterilgarda rider Cal Crutchlow fought his way to the front of the pre-race rankings in the racing action at Magny-Cours. Crutchlow rode his Yamaha to a new track record of 1’37.699 in Superpole Three action. Sylvain Guintoli of Suzuki Alstare came in next in second place, followed by Jakub Smrz of Pata B&G Aprilia in third to put three different motorcycles in the top three positions on the grid. Rounding out the front row for tomorrow’s Superbike action will be Max Biaggi of Aprilia Alitalia who came in fourth, even though the Roman racer was afflicted with a cold.

Ducati Xerox’s rider, Michel Fabrizio took fifth place in the Superpole, just out in front of Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Jonathan Rea who was sixth, Rea was just approved for racing on Friday morning after a test to determine if he was physically fit to race. Rea who was his recovering from a crash had to wear a special lightweight cast on his wounded left wrist.

Following Rea was Carlos Checa of Althea Racing in seventh, followed by Noriyaga Haga of Ducati Xerox who will race from the eighth position. BMW Motorrad Motorsport barely made the top ten, as their rider Troy Corser had a difficult time in practice placing him in ninth place. And rounding out the top ten racers was Leo Haslam of Suzuki Alstare who was number 10 in the Superpole session.
