Casey Stoner Wasting no Time in Pushing the Pace in California

Monday, July 26 2010

Ducati rider Casey Stoner wasted no time in setting the pace in the opening practice session for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at the Mazda Raceway Laguana Seca. Stoner, who beat Jorge Lorenzo’s time by two-tenths of a second, was 0.021s within Lorenzo’s 2009 pole position time. The Ducati racer got right into high-speed pace in the practice session as he attained the number one slot on the time sheet just prior the halfway point of the opening practice race. Stoner was able to keep the lead as me maintained consistent laps throughout the remainder of the session, after he had swapped bikes earlier due to not liking the se-up of his first bike.

In the last five minutes, Stoner recorded his best result of 1’21.699, which was just two-tenths under the race lap record that was set by Dani Pedrosa. This put the Australian racer 0.233s ahead on the timing sheets. The only other rider to come in beneath the 1’22” mark was the Jorge Lorenzo, who rides for Fiat Yamaha and is in the lead for the Championship. Lorenzo also got off to a fast start for the weekend with a best time of 1’21.932.

Following Lorenzo in the practice session, was Andrea Dovizioso with a time of 1’22.225, a little better than a half second over Stoner’s time with his Honda team mate Dani Pedrosa following him three-tenths lower than his time to round out the top four practice times.
