like so many of my freinds and family, I have motorcycles and a car. This makes daily life easier, for getting about, doing the shopping , ferrying kids around etc. plus it also creates a back up for when one is being serviced ,However we cannot get a joint insurance policy. This seems rather unfair. we are still the same driver/ rider no matter what vehicle we are in/on.a combined policy would make payments easier, less paperwork documents and a better deal for the company because they get both lots of money, i have 2 separate companies for mine, which is a pain when filling out forms and paying direct debits i cant believe that the risk is any greater by using different types of vehicles, than a purely car driver who has 2 cars.
I also beleive that a multi vehicle owner has a more sensible attitude because they have worked hard to get those vehicles in the first place and are less likely to be wreckless whilst driving.

Ok so from what people have told us on here, over the phone and by email, a combined policy for car and bike insurance is the way forward.

There is a problem with this though, and thats finding an insurer who is going to be the first to do it.

However, in the meantime, we have another little idea that we think might help you a bit.

So at the moment, The Bike Insurer compares bike insurance and a few other companies, Money Supermarket etc compare car insurance. What about this - One quote form that displays car and bike insurance quotes next to each other. Yes there will still be 2 providers of your insurance, one for bike and one for car but at least you can just get one quote for both, which saves you messing about having to fill in your details time and time again.

Like that idea at all, let us know…..

My friend told me about this website and I just got a quote from it. I was really impressed that I get the legal cover that some other companies wanted to charge me about £20 for and the quote was cheaper. My motorbike insurance is due for renewal next week and Im definitely going to use tesco from now on.

Funny I should come across this - I have just asked Admiral that very question today (combined car and bike) and the answer was no!
If the insurance companies woke up to the needs of the consumers and started to give us what we wanted (without hoiking prices through the roof) we’d all be a lot happier. I for one would definitely vote for a combined car and bike policy, or even better, insure the driver/rider for any vehicle that they own personally - can only use one at a time!!
Maybe one day? Soon would be good!

I really like the idea of a combined car and bike policy - I have been asking insurance companies for years why they don’t do this! We have 4 cars, a motorhome and a motorbike in our family, so if some enterprising company could offer cover under one policy for that lot without ripping us off they would definitely have our business. Even if I could only get personal cover for my 2 cars and motorbike it would be a much easier process and hopefully save money (after all, you can only drive one car or ride a bike at any given time!!). I currently have 3 different policies so a combined one would be great. Wakey wakey insurance companies, the consumers have spoken, now give us what we want. Bring it on…………..

Was with Bennetts insurance last year and just got my renewal over yesterday. They wanted £345 which I thought was a bit steep.

So I tried the Tesco bike insurance website and saved £85. Top site, well recommended.

Combined car and bike insurance makes total sense…..We physically cannot be riding a bike and driving a car simultaneously, so why should we have to pay the full price for both separately. A combined policy should be able to offer much better value as the insurer would be safe in the knowledge that we could only be doing one thing at a time and that we would be doing fewer miles with each vehicle too.

Hi Andy
Tried your new site and was very impressed.. the quotes are certainly cheaper than I have ever seen.
But I want the whole package - not just the insurance. Where is the Breakdown Cover and European Breakdown Cover?
If I get my insurance from Carole Nash I get the lot.. On EBike I can lay my bike up for winter at no charge and extend my insurance by a couple of months if I do so.. Yes I pay much more and I dont want to do that so all you have to do to tempt me is offer a similar package at a lower price.

I have just bought a zx10r from new a few months ago and am in love with my new machine under no circumstances would have I bought it if it was restricted to 65mph what a waste of time! What I dont understand is if they cant tax speeding bikers/cars, the revenue tax from the fag ban and now fuel efficcent zx10r’s!! . Where is the tax going to come from we will all be paying 40% tax regardless!!, Many thanks Prime Minister!!!!!

I heard of this excess insurance before and that seems quite good. Id really like the car and bike insurance combined policy particularly if I could pay for it monthly in one payment. At the moment my bike costs abour £500 to insure and my car the same so its a real pain to have to pay 2 lots of direct debit each month.

Yes I agree with the dazzad, 2 years bike insurance policy would be good. Why hasnt anyone done this before?

I wonder if everyone that moans and winges would rally up together and ride on downing street and tell all the MP’s that we have had enough. Look at the facts; the lorry blockage, the fuel blockage, the french ports blocked and even the Gay community now march the strrets of london. And they get there way, well some times.
I think tat there is enough of us that ride to create quite an impact in London. They make it harder and harder to get the license in the first place and there is another new test coming in soon. I wonder how many of them ride themselves.
In France the death rate is lower as the kids learn to ride first on mopeds. They have a sense of what is around them when they get in a car, unlike the spooty little shite in his souped up fiesta who’s mum and dad have paid for him to race around in without a care in the world.
I for one would ride, who’s with me?????????????
I know that some years ago, the Motor Cycle Action Group did something similar. Come on people, even if we dont get no where, we can have a blag round London, Might even get up to 65 on the Motorway lol

What a load of cobblers. I am a biker, car and a HGV 1 Driver and I find the worst drivers on the road are the car/van drivers who have no common sense or appreciation of the capabilities of others vehicles on the road, or any idea of the speed that truck drivers are legally allowed to travel. Whats going to happen if bikes are limited to 65 MPH?

Well as a Truck driver I can tell you, you will have idiots getting impatient because you are riding slower than they wish you to travel, and will overtake you in the most stupid places only to cut you up again to turn or slow down for a roundabout or other road user. Having had a trial, after gaining points for exceeding the speed limit for trucks, I have tried to stick to the speed limits for driving HGV’s, car & bike, I found that it was a dangerous occupation, as impatient drivers, all types of vehicles, had no consideration whatsoever for my speed and would do their utmost to get past at any cost. As a biker riding within the speed limit, especially in a 30MPH zone I have had vehicles so close to my back that I was considering uping my insurance to carry a pillion.. So Mr MP back off and have a good think about what you are trying to achieve with your stupid ideas. If anything you should be considering raising the speed limit, especially on some motorways. Contrary to fact truckers are more courteous to bikers thany our average car/van driver.

Can any body tell me the parentage of deaths that actually happened when a bike was traveling over 70 mph (on any road) as this is the only figure that would be affected by the restriction – and this figure would be superseded by the number of speeding motorists not seeing a bike on the motorway (we have all been upset by mopeds on duel carriageways) and also the frustration of the newted biker taking it out in areas of lower speed limits and on the twistys

who said this is not a nanny state ? this is the worst idea they have come up with yet sitting in there office trying to justify there wage i drive lorries with limiters set at 56mph sounds safe ! well it is not if i have to overtake i need 2 mile of straight road and if the car being overtaken accelerates im f***** and the constant low speed can send you to sleep very easily i wish everybody would stop telling us what to do and how to live our life, how many people died just crossing the road last year ? are they going to limit how many times we can cross the street ! i think not and if these bikes were limited (not going to happen we need to fight this ) who would buy one ? nobody it takes away the one thing bikes stand for FREEDOM if nobody buys them how many people will lose there business or jobs ?thousands thats how many so brilliant idea why dont you go and do wot your best at yes NOTHING AND LEAVE OUR LIVES ALONE AND GET A LIFE YOURSELF.

now this is an absolutely rediculous idea. it’s another goverment sceme to interfere in every part of our lives. why on earth should us bikers suffer because car drivers don’t look out for us as they shoud? l would love those mp’s to be on the back of a bike at 65mph when a truck blasts past at 70+ or a car driver that dosn’t see you and runs up the back of the bike at over 80mph which is the average on a motorway, if any one disagrees with that then get your eyes tested. the police have said that they usualyignore drivers that drive at 80mph as it is the norm. i wonder if the mp’s would let us put limiters on there slk’s, bmw’s, lexus’, jags etc, i don’t think so. if i had one put on my new bike i would take it off and shove it so far…..

One officer followed me after I wheelied across a train level crossing to congratulate me on my ability to wheelie a ZXR400.

I got 3 points and a £60 fine in a car. I was doing silly mph and plod caught up with me. It was my mates car and we were heading back to pick up my bike from the garage from servicing.

Thing is, for the amount of times I have sped on my bike, and the times I got away with it, this time I put my hands up and thought, about time you caught me. What took you so long (7 years). Disgraceful they took that long. Lol.

yes just like 2 say got a £60 fine and 3 points 4 doing 34mph in a 30 zone {down hill } no traffic about no school’s no pedestrians only me ????? got my letter within 6days ??? just had my bike stolen {a divi xj600 yam} from out/onlongside of my house. i retreived my smashed up topbox / part of my windshield bits of my clocks/ ignition barrel/glass from headlight etc about amile away down by some wasteland followed my tyre tracks for about another mile coming to a tarmac road then lost em?heading towards a village were awell know bike THEIF lives? [ guess what} he’s just come out of nick for motorbike theft??? still waiting on the police 4the fingerprints etc its bin nearly 3weeks ????? one unhappy biker victim THE CUCKOO

Thats ‘cos the police have nothing better to do than presecuting middle England. I want to propose an idea for a one day job swap.

They have to swap their nice shiny motors and pretty uniform for the real world and get their hands dirty trying to help some poor unfortunate single mother thats trying to bring 2 kids up and find a way to pay a £60 fine for going 3mph over the limit.

Meanwhile the mother can sit in a comfy leatherette chair mainlining Ginsters by the truckload and eyeing up young college girls under the pretense ‘Protecting society’

Tell me about it, I was riding to work the other day and this plod jumps out from behind an unmarked Mondeo and points the hairdrier at me. Then his boyfriend on an ST1100 comes after me and they collar me for doing 63 in a 50 on a clear, dry road.

Glad to see the British Constabulary doing the nation proud.
