Worx Crecent Suzuki rider Tommy Hill witnessed his hopes of winning the 2010 British Superbike crown dashed to pieces at Oulton Park on Sunday afternoon, October 10th. Hill was the series leader going into the last two races, but an unfortunate crash in race one demolished Hill’s shot at the BSB title.

During the early part of the race, Hill in second position challenged James Ellison for the number one spot into Lodge corner. It was then that Hill’s championship bid took a downward spiral as his machine kicked off a bump that forced Hill into the corner quicker than he had anticipated, this led Hill to collide with Ellison, causing both racers to crash. Hill was able to get back on his bike in the 19th spot and made an attempt at getting back in the race but a damaged master cylinder front brake failure forced Hill to lay his machine down. Due to the high speed the bike was travelling, there was extensive damage to Hill’s bike; at this point, the race was red flagged due to oil on the track.
Due to the one bike rule in place this season, Hill’s team was not able to fix the damage to his bike in time for the restart and Hill was not able to race in the rerun race, a race that was won by Hill’s rival Ryuichi Kiyonari.
However, the Worx Crescent Suzuki team was able to rebuild a Hill’s written off bike in time for Hill to compete in the second race. Under the circumstances, Hill’s bike did not have the precise set-up and feel of the original and Hill started from the third row overcoming set-up issues to fight out a fifth place finish. Hill ended up in third place in the Championship, following Ryuichi Kiyonari, who was first and Josh Brookes who finished second.
