Croft Circuit will not host BSB 2012

Croft motor racing circuit will not be hosting the British Superbike series in 2012, as the track can only see 40 days of activity per year after a High Court injunction was put in place in 2009 following the reaction to noise level complaints from local residents.

A BSB event takes in three days of racing, including qualifying, and Croft circuit hopes to use their 40 days to their full potential- fitting in as much as possible.

A statement from Croft circuit said this: “It’s disappointing not to have a round in the North East, we’ve always appreciated the great work organisations such as the North Yorkshire Road Racing Supporters Club put into racing.

“The simple fact is that Croft was offered a 2012 round but sadly they are working under extremely tough operating conditions, probably the most of any UK circuit, with only 40 operational days use a year.”

There are many famous names in motorsports who hail from the North-East: Penrith-based outfit Paul Bird Motorsport, Northumberland rider Graeme Gowland at Team WFR and the Shaun Muir Yamaha team from Guisborough – who won the 2011 competition – all represent the region in BSB.

Larry Carter, motorsport journalist: “British Superbikes at Croft is one of the biggest sporting events in the region and not to have it here is a massive blow for fans, teams and officials,

“It’s probably like not having the Tyne-Wear derby in football taking place, that’s how big it is in motorsport circles.

“Hopefully it is only for this year, from what I understand it’s only the one year so hopefully it will be back again in 2013.”

BSB has also announced that the Assen circuit in the Netherlands will be added to the calendar in 2012.
