Totting-up penalty points
Remember, the more penalty points you tot up, the more impact it will have on your bike insurance. Also, if you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of three years, you’ll be liable to be disqualified under the totting-up system. This is shown on your licence as TT99.
What is dangerous Driving?
Basically, the law states that a person is driving dangerously if he or she is driving in a manner that falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver, and it would be obvious to said driver that driving in such a manner would be dangerous.
A person may also be regarded as driving dangerously if it would be obvious to a competent and careful driver that driving the vehicle in its current state would be dangerous.
This is one of the most serious motoring offences and one that would not only adversely affect your bike insurance premiums but result in your case being dealt with in either the Magistrates or Crown Court. Here are some typical examples of what the courts have classed as dangerous driving:
Penalties and Prison
If you’re found guilty of dangerous driving, this often results in a prison sentence of up to 2 years in duration. Also, between 3 and 11 penalty points must be imposed and there is a mandatory disqualification period of at least a year, after which you must pass an extended driving test before being allowed back on the road.
Death by Dangerous Driving
The more serious allegation of death by dangerous driving can only be dealt with in the Crown Court, if found guilty, the offence is punishable by a maximum custodial sentence of up to 14 years. If you find yourself facing such a serious allegation as this, The Bike Insurer would advise you to employ the services of a specialist legal expert in this field.
