Friday, September 24 2010

In an electric racing first, an electric race-car took on an electric superbike in a head-to-head contest at the Thruxton racing circuit. The electric racing spectacle pitted Citroën’s Survolt concept against an Agni Z2 in a four wheels versus two wheels battle.

The electric car and electric superbike were in the hands of two professional female drivers, with Vanina Ickx, daughter of Jacky Ickx, who is a Formula One racing driver himself, piloting the Citroën Survolt and Jenny Tinmouth, who has the reputation as the fastest woman on the Isle of Man TT course, mounted upon the Agni Z2. The two ladies upon bike and car were in a battle gauging the speed, agility and performance of four wheels electric versus two.

Vanina remarked that the race was a fantastic experience, being the first electric match of its kind. She said that the lack of engine noise presented an interesting challenge, as usually in a race you have an idea of where your opponent is by the sound of their machine, but the electric vehicles run much quieter adding a new dynamic to the race. Vanina also added that she had a lot of fun and that she was thrilled that she was able to participate in this unique event.
