This Wednesday Marco Simoncelli’s body was laid out in his hometown of Coriano so his fans pay their respects. Hundreads of people turned out to the Municipal Theatre in Coriano to pay their final respects to the 24 year old beloved rider, who passed away on Sunday in a tragical crash in MotoGP race in Malaysia. The funeral will take place today, on Thursday.
The two symbols of his talent, on which Marco won the 2008 250cc World Championship title, the Giliera bike and the Honda RC212V, on which he competed in the MotoGP class, were behind the Italian rider’s coffin.
Italian sporting figures were present at the Municipal Theatre in Coriano – the former basketball player Walter Magnifico and Marco Melandri, a close friend of Marco Simoncelli’s and his team-mate in the Gresini team during the young rider’s debut season in MotoGP in 2010.
At the funeral that takes place today at 3pm at the Santa Maria Assunta church in Coriano, fellow riders and close friends of Marco, including Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Jorge Lorenzo and Sete Gibernau are expected to be present.
For all those that loved Marco Simoncelli and want to follow the ceremony, two large screens will be installed outside the church, and a large screen will be installed the the Misano circuit nearby.
