Friday Qualifying at Imola

As the qualifying action got underway in Italy, it was Althea Racing’s Carlos Checa who stole the show in the first day of motorcycle action at the Imola circuit. During the afternoon qualifying Checa posted a time of 1’48.178, Checa’s time was to be the best time of Friday’s qualifying action.

Coming in second to Checa was Jonathan Rea who rides for Ten Kate Honda. Rea came in just a fraction of a second behind Checa, trailing the Spaniard by only 0.380 seconds. Bring up the third place position behind Rea was Leon Haslam who rides for the Suzuki Alstare team. Haslam made improvements on his free qualifying performance, he done this in spite of the injuries that still linger from the crash that he suffered in Germany.

The fourth place position was filled by Noriyuki Haga who rides for the Ducati Xerox team, as his team mate, Michel Fabrizio came in right behind him in the fifth place position. Max Biaggi who rides for Aprilia Alitalia trailed the pack as he came in 14 place in Friday’s qualifying session.

Checa also had the best time in the morning session, as he beat his team mate, Shane Byrne who came in second place. Fabrizio had the third best time; Rea had the fourth, with Tom Sykes coming in fifth.
