During last season’s event on the Kyalami circuit last year, the Ducati 1198 of Ducati’s Xerox racing team was a winner. The two red bikes dominated the weekend event as Noriyuki Haga won two races and his team-mate Michel Fabrizio took home two second place finishes. The two Ducati team racers clearly dominated the field as they crossed the finish line a full eight seconds ahead of the closest competitor; it is also noteworthy that Fabrizio set a record lap time in the first race.

Regarding the 2010 World Superbike season, in the general standings, Haga and Fabrizio at present hold sixth and eleventh place respectively in a championship that is proving to be very close series in light of the action that has taken place in the previous five rounds. In the manufactures standings, Ducati is in third place, following behind rivals Suzuki and Aprilia.

In the action last week at Monza, the opening races of the seasons Italian Superbike races, the racers not only went head to head against other racers but also had to contend with the elements in what proved to be a mixed weekend of racing. At a venue where Ducati was at a disadvantage in comparison to the prior year, in regard to top speed, and facing the burden of extra weight and 50mm air restrictors that can cut back on the maximum power, the two Ducati riders raced for as many points as they could, which garnered them sixth and seventh place finishes.
