As testers from every major biking publication were attending, there was highly positive early feedback given by the testers. The positive reviews were the result of some ground-up alterations made on the new GSX-R600, which is an amazingly 9kg lighter than earlier editions of the bike.

Michael Neeves, the Motorcycle News tester wasted no time in sharing his opinion of the new GSX-R600 stating that after only a couple of sessions out on the asphalt that he already could feel major difference over the previous edition. Neeves related that the motor felt keener with more mid-range and noticeably sharper chassis. He also added that he was looking forward to getting back on the motorcycle and trying out the settings recommended by three time winner of the British Superbike Championship, John Reynolds.

Kenny Pryde, Superbike Magazine editor upon returning from his second session said that he had used the 2010 model throughout the year as his long-term test bike, so he was really up for trying out the new bike. Pryde remarked that he could feel more mid-range performance from the bike and that the chassis was very agile. He also noted the power of the Brembo brakes as being really notable.
