World Superbike Championship racing differs from MotoGP in that whereas MotoGP uses prototype motorcycles that are specifically built for MotoGP racing, World Superbike Racing (WSB) uses production motorcycles that have been built for the WSB races. This fact makes Superbike very popular with the motorcycle producers since it provides another avenue to promote and sell their bikes. The phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Sunday” is a catch phrase that fits in well with World Superbike.
The World Superbike Championship races are held in different locations around the globe with many countries involved in holding this popular event. Some of the countries that play host to this prestigious series are Australia, Japan, UK, and Spain just to name a few.
The WSB had its beginnings back in 1988, and is governed by rules laid out by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme that is headquartered in Mies, Switzerland. The famed racing series is overseen and promoted by Infront Sports that is ran by Maurizio and Paolo Flammini.
According to figures from Infront Motor Sports, WSB had 1 million fans who watched the racing series via the internet in 2008, with an additional 2 billion fans watching the series through televised broadcasts of the races.
.
The series has on average 150 journalists who attend the events, which represent 200 magazine publications, as well as newspapers, local television, and websites, etc.
