Heroic Lowes fifth at Monza

Wednesday, May 11 2011

PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes rode through the pain barrier with a broken collarbone to secure an impressive fifth place at the fourth round of the World Supersport Championship at Monza in Italy.

Miguel Praia crashed out mid-race while ninth and looking comfortable for one of his best results in the class. He has broken a bone in his shoulder but is expected to be fit for the next round of the World Supersport Championship at Misano in Italy on 12th of June.

Sam: “That was a hard race in the heat and with my injured shoulder. I really wanted to finish the race and rode safely within myself – I am ok with fifth given my condition. My Parkalgar Honda was great and I am really looking forward to getting back to full fitness and challenging for the win at Misano next month”

Miguel: “I was fighting for eighth place when I went into a corner too fast and ran wide and off the track. I am disappointed to have missed this opportunity to score good points and what I think may have been a good finish inside the top 10. The good news is my Parkalgar Honda is a very quick bike and I will do all I can to be fit for the next round and I am sure we can get a good result there.”

Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “That was a heroic ride for Sam given he broke his collarbone just three weeks ago and did not take any pain killers this weekend. A fully fit Sam Lowes would have been challenging for the race win I am sure and we look forward to having him back to 100 per cent at the next round.

“Miguel was competitive inside the top 10 and enjoying his best race of the year when he made a mistake and crashed out. He is showing ability and pace and we will build on that at the next round and the results will come for him soon.”
