How to Clean your Motorbike
It may sound simple, but there is an art to it! Cleaning your motorcycle is definitely best done by hand as high pressure car wash hoses can seriously damage mechanical bike parts; they’re more exposed and vulnerable than those on cars. So here are a few useful tips to follow when washing your machine:
- Find a spot out of the sun in which to wash your bike as the sun can cause water to harm your paintwork, leaving unsightly spots.
- Always use warm water and a clean sponge, any grit or abrasives on the sponge could scratch your paintwork.
- You can get specialised products to remove bugs from your bike, but WD40 does the job just as nicely.
- Some areas do require harsh solvents when cleaning, but be sure not to let these strong cleaning products get on any paint or chrome areas.
- Use a toothbrush to clean all those hard to reach areas.
- Tyre shining and dressing products are not advisable as they can cause a loss of tyre grip, making them lethal when out on wet roads.
- A chamois leather cloth will help to dry your bike without leaving streaks or scratching any paintwork.
