Hutchinson Records Five Wins at Isle of Man TT Races

Sunday, June 13 2010

Ian Hutchinson made his mark on history by becoming the first man to have won five TT races in a week; Ian accomplished this after he won the abbreviated four-lap Dainese Senior race. Friday proved to be an exciting day of racing on the Isle as Ian jumped out ahead at the start of the race, and was able to stay ahead of challengers John McGuinness and Conor Cummins until John retired from the race and Conor suffered a crash. After this Ian was able to let up a bit in the last stages of the race to finish 37.77 seconds ahead of racers Bruce Anstey and Ryan Farquhar.

Ian has beaten the record of 11 time champion Philip McAllen, who prior to Ian’s wins was the only man in the history of the races to achieve four wins in one week; Philip accomplished this feat back in 1996.

The beginning six-lap race started underneath a sky of blue with the sun beaming down upon the racing event as racing fans were looking forward to some exciting racing action. Initially, Ian, John, Conor, Guy Martin went at it head to head during the first couple of laps, as the four racers all lapped at 130mph, there was a space of less than six seconds separating the four racers following the first pit stop.

However, things were soon to change as Guy came up missing at Glen Helen on the third lap, this was due to an incident that set his bike and the hedge ablaze. The fire caused the race to be red flagged, as the fire brigade were called to the scene. The halted race did not resume until 3:00pm; when the race began again, it was a shortened four lap race. This was the race that put Mister Hutchinson in the Isle of Man TT record books.
