Is World Superbikes smaller than ever?

Thursday, December 20 2012

It appears that the 2013 entry numbers for World Superbikes may be the smallest ever in the competition’s history, prompting fears that the competition may be facing issues that occurred in MotoGP, when fewer manufacturer teams were willing to participate.

So far, only nineteen riders have signed up to be on the starting grid for the first round of the competition at Phillip Island, compared with twenty-three this year. It appears that the low figures can be explained by the loss of the Effenbert Liberty Racing Team and with nobody sure when they will make their return, figures may stay low for some time.
