Rea suffered injuries to his shoulder and wrist when he crashed during Superpole in the previous round at Imola in Italy. Rea attempted to ride his Honda CBR1000RR in the warm-up on Sunday morning, but in the end decided not to race in the two races.

The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider has been the winner in four events this season and at present time in third place in the championship; the first two places of the championship were determined last weekend. Rea understandably would like to maintain his third place position if he is physically able.

Rea’s team-mate, Max Neukirchner, is going Magny-Cours bent on finishing the season on a high note after a streak of frustrating races.

Rea when commenting on his injury said that he had ripped the scapholunate ligament between the scraphoid and the lunar bones and that he had broken off some of the bone from the scraphoid. Rea also stated that he had dislocated the AC joint in his shoulder but that it was his wrist that posed a problem. In looking forward, Rea said that depending upon the verdict about his physical state, he was looking at wearing a carbon cast and a special glove at the Magny-Cours event.
