Legal Concerns about Quad Bike Insurance

Sunday, October 25 2009

Many UK bike enthusiasts who prefer four wheels underneath them as opposed to two may have some legal concerns about the legality of quad bikes out on the open road. According to legal experts, it is indeed legal to ride a quad bike on the open road provided that the quad bike meets certain requirements.

The requirements for quad bikes as set forth in the law are as follows:
Quad bikes that are going to be street legal must be registered with the DVLA.
Quad bikes that are going to be street legal must be taxed.
Quad bikes that are going to be street legal must carry insurance cover.
Quad bikes that are going to be street legal must comply with strict lighting regulations.
Quad bikes that are going to be street legal must have a MOT.
Quad bikes that are going to be street legal must show registration plates in the front and the rear also.

In addition, riders of street legal quad bikes must be at least 17 years of age. If anyone has questions about the legality of a quad bike on the road, they should contact The Department of Transport.

Any Comments?

(required)

  • can you ride a 200cc quad bike on the road with a full car driving licence and has it got to be a certain cc

  • Interesting topic, one that gets plenty of “churning” where ever you go. I would like to add something though – if someone claims a disabled full allowance, they can ride a quad bike at the ripe old age of 16!

Sometimes, life is just that way inclined.
