Coming in behind Lorenzo’s top lap time in the afternoon was Casey Stoner who also had the fastest time in the morning session. Stoner was the only racer in the session that didn’t make an improvement from his time in the morning session and finished with a lap time that was 0.314s off of Lorenzo’s time. However, due to Stoner’s earlier time, Stoner and Lorenzo were the only racers who fell under the 1’33” mark in Friday’s free practice sessions.
Following behind Stoner was Colin Edwards who time was nearly 0.5s off of Stoner’s time by the conclusion of the session with a time of 1’33.46. Marco Simoncelli and Andrea Dovizioso were each within four thousandths of a second of Edwards as they rounded out the top five.
Rounding out the field was Ben Spies with the sixth best time, with Randy de Puniet and Marco Melandri in the top eight. Next was Valentino Rossi with ninth best time, followed by Nicky Hayden with the 10th, with Dani Pedrosa in 12th.
