Marc Marquez, 2012 Moto2 champion, completed his final race in style this weekend, winning the final round at Valencia. Despite already having the title in the bag, Marquez wasn’t willing to bow out of Moto2 without a fight and left fans with a real spectacle as he powered through the grid to take a well-deserved victory.
Though he started from last on the grid, the Repsol Honda man put in a fantastic performance, overtaking a dozen riders by the time he reached the first corner. It wasn’t long before he was wheel to wheel with race leader, Julian Simon so all that was left was for Marquez to overtake; that’s exactly what he did, claiming the victory and ending the season with a brand new Moto2 points record of 324. With the title in the bag, Marquez now leaves Moto2 to take part in the premier class with Repsol Honda for 2012.
