Max Biaggi the Champion as World Superbike Championship 2010 Ends

Tuesday, October 5 2010

Max Biaggi of Aprilia Alitalia finished the season at Magny-Cours as the Champion of the World Superbike Championship. Even though Biaggi was the overall champion of the series, he had to settle for fourth place in the first race. Cal Crutchlow of Yamaha Sterilgarda was a lonely winner as he took first place by 3.779 seconds in race number one of the final round of the World Superbike Championship. Behind Crutchlow, Leon Haslam of Suzuki Alstare battled it out with Carlos Checa of Althea Racing Ducati as the racers moved out in front of Biaggi to fill up the podium positions for the first race of the final round. At the end of the race, it was Haslam in second place followed by Checa in third, with champion Biaggi with a fourth place finish. Even with a fourth place finish, Biaggi still scored enough points to win the championship.

In the second race, Biaggi came out with much better results, as he held off a determined Crutchlow to win the second race by a margin of 0.087 seconds after 23-laps of intense racing action. Following Cruthlow’s second place finish was Michel Fabrizio of the Ducati Xerox Team who made his way past Sylvain Guintoli of Suzuki Alstare to finish in third place in the final race of the season.

Following Max Biaggi in the overall standing is Leon Haslam in second place, with Carlos Checa coming in third.
