Private testing began at the Valencia circuit yesterday for the 2012 Moto2 season. Three days of testing here will give riders the chance to sample new 2012 models. Pol Espargaró achieved the best times in his first ride on the Pons-Kalex machine.
Also amongst those testing: Nico Terol (125cc World Champion), who will be graduating to the intermediate class in the Aspar team and Gino Rea who rode the Gresini motorbike as he is most likely to be closing a deal to ride with the Italian team in the 2012 season.
Final positions yesterday saw the top spots filled by Kalex machines. The first three places were clinched by Espargaró, Esteve Rabat and Scott Redding. Redding’s squad, Marc VDS have made the change to a German made Kalex chassis in the hope that it will be better suited to Redding’s height.
Two more days of testing will reveal timesheet leads and racer satisfaction (or not!) with new 2012 models.
