Speedway

Speedway races usually involve 4 competitiors and take place on a flat, oval track made up of loose dirt, which allows competitors to slide their motorbikes in order to navigate the bends, accelerating round and bringing their back wheel out in a fast paced skid. The specifications of Speedway bikes include having no brakes and using only one gear, and the rules of the sport denote that riders may not receive any assistance throughout races- that’s fierce competition for you. Point scoring works on a 3-2-1-0 system, meaning that of the 4 competitors in the race, 1st place receives 3 points, 2nd place 2 points and so on down a sliding scale.

Getting into Speedway riding is easy, it’s accessible at all levels and ages and you’ll find that tracks offer both training schools and also opportunities to test out riding the tracks for fun, with open days and amateur meetings where you can meet tons of other riders and try out your sliding skill.
