Hyosung Motors & Machinery Inc. was founded in Korea in 1978 and first set out producing motorcycles for Japanese firm Suzuki. By 1986 the company had successfully established its own research and development centre in Hamamatsu, Japan and began the mass production of its own original motorcycle designs the following year.
Hyosung enjoyed considerable success and was chosen as the official motorcycle manufacturer of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. In 2003, Hyosung parted company with its parent group and was acquired by S&T Motors of Korea in 2007.
