Some new numbers released by the Government reveal that as the amount of miles travelled by motorcycles as rose, the amount of injuries and deaths on motorcycles as fallen. This shows that increasing miles travelled does not mean more motorcycle wrecks.

This has been the trend that has been in place since around 2002, when the correlation between the year on year number of motorcycles on the highways and the amount of casualties per year was broken.
Statistics show that motorcycle traffic increased by 2%, yet the amount of motorcycle casualties was down by 4% when compared to 2008. The amount of serious injuries went down 4% to 5,350 and there were 472 fewer deaths in 2009, which additionally was 4% lower than in 2008.
Making improvements in motorcycle safety has always been something that is important to the industry, the MCI works close with Government and other entities within the motorcycle community to try to discover ways to make those improvements.
Contributing factors to the improved safety and the reduction in casualties and deaths has been the result of different factors. Those factors are the Police Bikesafe scheme, improvements made in engineering, intelligent enforcing, and a commitment from those who train riders to improve the standards
