Öhlins present yet another innovative off-road product; the Öhlins S3 Selective Steering Stabilizer, complete with a high quality triple clamp- it’s next season’s must-have for MX and Enduro. Presented at the EIMCA, this revolutionary new product will be on show at NEC Motorcycle Live on the Harris Performance stand (G305).
The new system arrives following intensive testing at Öhlins R&D centre. The S3 is the answer to feedback from riders all over the world regarding the sensitivity of existing dampers on the market. The new product stabilizes the ride and thanks to patented technology; selects when and if the rider needs assistance.
With ‘safe’ steering during normal use, the Steering Stabilizer provides no damping, giving a completely natural feel of the bike and free movement the front end. It is also tuned so as not to affect the handler’s movement of the bike whilst jumping.
However, when an outside force (be it a stone, rut or any other object) puts pressure on to the front wheel, the system activates instantly. All thanks to a torsion bar atop the fork bridge, the outside force hitting the front wheel activates valves in the Selective Steering Stabilizer and the sudden fast movement is filtered away- meaning that the rider can maintain total control of the bike.
The Selective Steering Stabilizer is easy to use and no adjustments are needed- the system adapts to the forces impressed upon the front wheel. It is a solely mechanical and hydraulic system which is integrated with the Öhlins upper triple clamp.
The S3 has already been tested by numerous top riders in MX, Rally Raid and Enduro- with great results. It will be available for all major MX and Enduro models during the spring of 2012.
