After a frustrating session which was halted by rain, testing finally got underway in Valencia for the Repsol Honda MotoGP team. Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez managed to get some useful laps under their belts in preparation for the 2013 season, with Dani getting his first chance aboard the new 2013 bike and Marc his first taste of the 1000cc machine.
After his first lap, Dani had managed a time of 1’34.911, proving that the track had dried enough for the session to get underway. He tested the 2013 model in his effortless way, completing thirty laps, and a track record time of 1’32.322. Marc meanwhile finally got his chance on the 2012 machine, carrying out an initial run of five laps. By the end of the fifth, he had reduced his time to 1’35.846 and continued reducing it throughout the session. His next test will take place in Sepang on the 26th, 27th and 28th November, while Dani will be back on the bike on the 5th, 6th and 7th February 2013. Marc was understandably thrilled to kick off his Premier Class career;
‘I feel so happy! We waited the whole day for the track to dry so that we could finally try the bike but it took such a long time. In the beginning it was quite difficult but very nice to feel the power of the bike. I tried to adapt my riding style from Moto2 because there was quite a big difference…We had a good start and I have a very good feeling with the team.’
