WSB and BSB tyre supplier, Pirelli, is to cut the production of 16.5 inch tyres in favour of 17-inchers for WSB from 2013.
This move takes full advantage of Pirelli’s monopoly on production racing- as a result of the single-make tyre rules in WSB and BSB. With no danger of rival manufacturers, Pirelli appears to have made a savvy move.
However, the manufacturers of aftermarket wheels such as Marchesini, BST and Oz could be hit quite hard with no orders for 16.5 inch wheels from WSB or BSB team for 2013.
