Britain’s Leon Camier heads to Assen in the Netherlands this weekend for the 3rd round of the World Superbike Championship. The 24 year old from Kent who is continuing to recover from glandular fever, is hoping for another strong showing following his podium finish at Donington Park three weeks ago.
Leon’s recent health issues had left the young rider struggling with fatigue throughout the race weekend last time out. Determined to put on a good show in front of the home crowd, from 7th on the grid Leon diced for the lead in Race One before grip issues arose. Then in the second race Leon fought hard to secure 3rd to see him emerge as the top placed Brit.
"Initially after the second race at Donington Park I felt ok, must have been the adrenalin. I was so happy to be on the podium in front of the British crowd" commented Leon. "But then for the few days after I could barely keep my eyes open, I can only describe it as like the worst jet lag I’ve ever experienced."

Despite the glandular fever which has affected the start to his Championship campaign, Leon is keen to focus on the future and his continued progress.
"I had the results from my latest blood test a few days ago and been given the all clear to start training again which is good news. The glandular fever completely wiped out my fitness so I have to start from scratch. Unfortunately I’ve been told I can only do some real steady cycling and gym work, I can’t push myself yet, but at least I can do something; it’s progress!"
Commenting on the race weekend ahead, Leon said "I’m really looking forward to Assen. I had my first World Superbike podium there last year so it holds some good memories. It’s a really physical circuit so I don’t know how I’ll hold up, but I’m doing everything I can to try and score another couple of strong results.
"Keith Code from the California Superbike School is coming to help me again. His input at Donington Park was invaluable so it’s a boost to know he’ll be there. Throughout the last race weekend I struggled towards the end of every session with fatigue so I’ve also got my trainer coming to Assen to help me with my recovery in between sessions. I’ve just got to take it all step by step see what happens."
Practice for the 3rd round of the World Superbike Championship gets underway at Assen’s TT circuit this Friday 15th April.
