Even though Rea and Haga were the winners over the weekend, Max Biaggi of Aprilia Alitalia and Leon Haslam of Suzuki Alstare stole their thunder; as fans witnessed Biaggio have his championship lead over Haslam diminished. At present Biaggi is now leading the series by a slightly reduced 58 points with two rounds remaining in the series.
Rea with a first and second place for the weekend in conjunction with lacklustre race performance by Carlos Checa of Althea Racing is now in third place in the overall standings, 64 points of Checa. It is notable that Rea made a new lap time record of 1’55.392 in the first race. Haga’s first place finish puts the Ducati Xerox rider in sixth place in the overall standings, 15 points ahead of James Toseland of Yamaha Sterilgard who failed in the first race and made only an eighth place finish in the second race.
