The government of the Isle of Man has paid homage to Mitsuo Ito, the winner of the 50cc TT in 1963, by putting a special 50 pence coin into circulation for the up-and-coming Isle of Man TT races this year.

Mr. Ito presently remains the only winner of the TT race from Japan, so the coin minted for the occasion will have the image of Ito-san and his 50cc Suzuki motorcycle in action at the race of 1963.
As 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of Suzuki’s International Racing, which had its beginnings on the Isle of Man, this year’s festivities looks to be a couple of weeks of celebrating for the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer. Attending the event will be Mr. Ito himself along with other Suzuki racers that have raced for Suzuki down through the years.
Mr. Ito recently paid a visit to the Island in 2007 during the festival’s centennial celebration, at this celebration he had a reunion with the Suzuki that he rode to victory in 1963. Once again, Mr. Ito will be on the Isle of Man for Suzuki’s 50th anniversary of International racing and will reunite with fellow Suzuki rider Frank Perris who rode with Mr. Ito during the 1960′s.
In addition to being available on the Isle of Man during the two-week celebration, the special commemorative coin can also be purchased at the Post Office on the main island, through iomstamps.com or right from the coin’s maker,
