Plater has a good amount of experience in a numerous road-races, like the North West 200 and Macau GP races, but is relatively new to the Isle of Man race. Even though he made his debut in 2007, he made history as he became the fastest new racer ever, and following in 2008 with a maiden victory in the Supersport class. Plater continued his success in 2009 by a victory in the Senior TT race and by finishing second in the Superbike TT race following Honda team mate John McGuiness. Additionally, Plater set an amazing new record in the Senior TT race 2009 and had the fastest lap time for the Supersport class in the same year. As a result of these accomplishments, Plater received the award for the best overall performance 2009 in TT.
Plater’s first North West appearance at the North West 200 goes back to 1995 and 2010 will be the eleventh time that he has raced on the Triangle Circuit. Having eight North West 200 wins to his credit (five Superbike and three Supersport), holding the record lap time in both classes, numerous podiums and several front row starts, Plater is thought to be one of the top challengers at the North West 200.
