The first Supersport race of 2013 took place in Phillip Island this weekend, with Kenan Sofuoglu winning the thirty-second race of his career to date. The Mahi Racing Team India Kawasaki rider battled hard with Sam Lowes, in a race which culminated in a victory for Sofuoglu and a second place for Lowes – the three-time World Supersport champion even managed a lap record of 1’33.283.
Rookie Michael van der Mark of Pata Honda World Supersport ended his debut run in an impressive third place, putting up a fantastic fight throughout, just 6.771 seconds behind winner Sofuoglu. Sofuoglu’s teammate, Fabien Foret ended his race in fourth position, ahead of Intermoto Ponyexpress duo, David Salon and Luca Scassa, with Andrea Antonelli behind them.
ParkinGO MV Agusta Corse’s Roberto Rolfohad to withdraw from the race following technical difficulties with his MV Agusta F3. Until that point he had had experienced a good race, even battling for fourth position. A crash at the end of lap three also put paid to proceedings for Vladimir Leonov and Raffaela De Rosa.
