Triumph Young Guns gets backing from Frankie Chili

Tuesday, April 26 2011

Triumph Young Guns, the talent scout scheme, launched earlier this month (April 2011), has confirmed racing legend Pierfrancesco ‘Frankie’ Chili as one of its judges and mentors.

The world renowned Italian rider made 276 World Superbike starts over a span of 12 years, securing 17 wins and an impressive 61 podium finishes before his retirement in 2006. Since then, Frankie has focused on his broadcast career and his role as a race team manager. His new role as a judge for the Hinckley firm’s Young Guns initiative dovetails with his support for the Triumph Triple Challenge (TTC), which has appointed him as official race series Ambassador and Grand Marshal for the 2011 season.

Applicants to the Young Guns Academy will be assessed by a panel of judges including Chili, the bike media, MSVR, TTC’s Tony Scott and senior management from Triumph, to select 10 lucky riders, who will be assessed and coached during the 2011 season. As part of the selection and mentoring, a number of tailored training sessions will take place over the year, focusing on issues such as personal fitness, racecraft and marketing/promotion.

Frankie Chili will be contributing to the key racecraft session, sharing his secrets of track success, as well as playing a central role as one of the judging panel.

Tony Scott, organiser of the Triumph Triple Challenge and one of the Young Guns judges, said: “I am delighted to welcome Frankie as a fellow judge on this important new talent spotting initiative. I count Frankie as a great friend, a great rider and a huge inspiration to up and coming racing talent. Crucially, he is able to perform on track and communicate this passion and skill to other riders. We’re honoured to have his endorsement and support for both the Triple Challenge Series and Young Guns. ”

The scheme will culminate at the final round of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch on October 7-9 2011, where three chosen finalists will take part in the last Metzeler National Supertstock 600 races of the year. The overall winner of Triumph Young Guns 2011 will be chosen based on their conduct over the year and their performance at Brands Hatch. Deadline for initial entries is Friday May 6, 2011.
