Last season, Guy Martin was Tyco Suzuki’s only contender at the Isle of Man TT and Ulster Grand Prix, but was joined by reigning British Supersport champion, Alastair Seeley at the North West 200. The team is now weighing up the options in the search for a second rider to join Martin in contesting the 2012 TT and Ulster Grand Prix.
In the 2011 season, Martin stood on the podium four times during race week finally finishing in the runner-up spot behind 17-times TT winner, John McGuinness.
Tyco Suzuki is yet to officially confirm Martin for the new campaign, but it’s believed that the deal will most definitely go ahead. The challenge is now on to find a second team member.
Michael Dunlop tested the GSX-R1000 superbike for the team last year, but in the end decided to operate his own team under the Street Sweep Racing/PBM Kawasaki banner. Dunlop has not yet confirmed his plans for 2012, and therefore could be in the Suzuki frame again, although he does appear content to do his own thing.
Conor Cummins, who has recovered from serious injuries sustained at the 2012 TT, is perhaps a stronger candidate. Cummins has competed for Northern Ireland’s McAdoo Kawasaki in recent seasons but it now seems as though a renewed association with the team is unlikely.
