After injuring his wrist in a crash during the Valencia Grand Prix earlier this month, Ducati’s Nicky Hayden yesterday underwent surgery in attempts to promote a speedier recovery.
The operation, which was performed by Dr Arthur Ting at the Fremont Sports Therapy and Surgery Centre in California, involved the insertion of a tiny screw into the fractured scaphoid in Hayden’s right wrist.
Hayden commented that the surgery had gone well; the scaphoid heals slowly and such surgery will help ensure that it heals correctly. An x-ray in 4 weeks time will assess the status of the wrist bone and Hayden is confident that he will be at full fitness fro his return to the track in Sepang, Malaysia on January 31st- the first day of the 2012 testing season.
