It's a workhorse of a bike and it might be basic and not very flash, but if reliability, fuel miles and cheap spares are priorities, it's worth considering. The bike is made from poor quality materials and has a poor quality finish. This means that everything on the bike has seized up, and it's almost impossible to maintain properly. Maintenance is a huge issue, with seized and rusted nuts and bolts, and difficulty of access to main engine parts. As such, these bikes are unmaintained and are prone to fail at any moment. The fruits of Kaizen: the Kawasaki ER5. Marking the point where Japanese manufacture gave up on good quality and kowtowed to the suits. A truly modern bike designed to expire, with a built-in failure/obsolescence.
