Originally involved in the manufacture of aircraft, ships and trains, Kawasaki soon turned its attention to powered two-wheelers in 1954 built its first bikes in the form of a 60cc two-stroke, a 150cc four-stroke and a 250cc four-strokes.
The Japanese company developed into one of the biggest manufacturers quickly and by 1960 it was in a position to take over Meguro, the oldest motorbike manufacturer in Japan.
Since then, Kawasaki has concentrated on building big, powerful sportsbikes with the 1969 500cc H1 its first properly successful motorcycle.
