Career best again for Dan Drayton

Dan drayton on track at season finale in France

A trip to the hospital wasn’t enough to stop Dan Drayton claiming a career best finish for the second race in a row.

Last time out, Drayton finished seventh at Donington Park, his home track, but he went one better again on Sunday in Misano.

Starting from 14th on the grid, Drayton managed to work his way through the field to claim a European Junior Cup best finish of sixth, as well as 10 championship points in the process.

That puts Drayton’s points total up to 19 and catapults him into ninth place in the Championship Standings overall.

Rapid recovery

Drayton’s weekend got off to a disastrous start after he was hospitalised on Thursday evening.

The Scunthorpe rider dragged himself out of his hospital bed to take part in every practice session, finishing in 11th and 15th in Free Practice 1 and 2 respectively.

Drayton went on to slash his lap time again in Qualifying, posting a time of 1’49.211, enough to sit in 14th on the grid.

The Bike Insurer sponsored rider said:

“I had a bad start to the weekend after being taken to hospital with an allergic reaction to what should have been a delicious Italian ice cream!

“I’m very pleased with this result as it puts me into the top ten in Europe, and I am the best classified British rider to boot. I gave it everything and felt super weak when I got back to the pits but it was worth it and a pretty good father’s day present for my dad!”

With four races to go, Drayton will be looking to improve on his already impressive points tally next time out in Germany in September.
