Dan Drayton recorded his highest ever finish in the European Junior Cup (EJC) over the weekend after a seventh place finish at Donington Park.

The Scunthorpe teenager managed to move into the top ten almost as soon as the lights went out at the East Midlands track after starting from a career-high 13th on the grid.

And from there, Drayton never looked troubled, as he moved swiftly up to seventh place, a position he surrendered just once before the race was complete.

It’s the second time Drayton’s scored points in the European Junior Cup, a series he’s been riding in since the start of last season.

Then it was a strong performance in Jerez that got the 18-year-old one point on the board but home advantage paid off at Donington Park in the form of nine championship points.

That’s enough to push Drayton up to 14th in the EJC overall in 2016 and The Bike Insurer racer was clearly thrilled with his performance.

He said: “Donington is my home race and I arrived confident but left with a better result than I expected. I was hoping that we could get into the points but [over] the whole weekend everything just fell into place.

“I [have] never had so many people cheering me and to hear them all on the stage when I was introduced was mega.”

From Donington, the EJC heads to Misano, Italy in just under three weeks time.
