Leon Haslam to wildcard at Donington Park World Superbikes!

If there was one man who knows his way round Donington Park better than anyone, it would be Ron Haslam, who runs the Honda Ron Haslam Race School at the Leicestershire track. But running him a close second must be his British Superbike racer son, Leon Haslam, who has been riding at the track since he was a teenager.

Which means we’re right to get excited that organisers have just announced Leon Haslam will be wild carding in the World Superbike race on May 25-27 at Donington Park.

Haslam rides for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship but will ride at Donington Park and Imola as a wildcard in WorldSBK for Kawasaki Pucetti on a Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

Leon has unfinished business after he scooped a second place at Donington Park World Superbikes last year, and hopes are high for the man who literally grew up at the Leicestershire circuit.

Haslam said: “I’m super-excited to be riding for the Kawasaki Pucetti team, the same as last season. Finishing second last year was over my expectations so hopefully we can do the same again. Hopefully there will be a big crowd there and we’ll give them something to cheer about.”

Haslam is currently sitting third in the British Superbike table after taking a second place at Donington Park BSB, followed by a win at Brands Hatch. And there’s nothing British Superbike racers like more than sending it to the better paid, more prestigious World Superbike Championship regulars.

The race takes place over the May Bank Holiday weekend of May 25-27. Adult weekend tickets cost £50, and kids under 13 go free.
