Nifty Fifty success for The Bike Insurer
After we don’t know how many attempts to win a Honda C90 race, The Bike Insurer finally bagged some silverware in the Nifty Fifty in Ireland over the weekend.
The Nifty Fifty is a race like the PLOP but staged at Mondello Park just outside of Dublin, Ireland.
While the weather mimicked Anglesesy (cold, windy and wet) where the PLOP is usually hosted, our result didn’t as The Bike Insurer team topped our class, finishing six laps ahead of our nearest rivals.
Overall victors for the day were Driving Miss Daisy, another UK export and usually the team to beat in the Anglesey rounds of the PLOP Enduro, organised by S&D Armada.
In all, six teams from the PLOP headed over the Irish Sea to take part in the Nifty and it was clear from the outset that things are done a little bit differently in Ireland.
A number of teams fell foul of stringent rules and regulations with a lack of a chain guard and old helmets causing stress and panic in the paddock.
But after some novel use of The Bike Insurer’s old pit board, zip ties and communal lids, all teams made it to the grid for the Le Mans start – quite a sight with 50 teams lined up.
After an ‘elbows-out’ beginning and an unceremonious wheelie from one team, the seventh Nifty Fifty was off and underway at Mondello Park.
How The Bike Insurer fared
The Bike Insurer started well with 2015 EJC rider Daniel Drayton quick out of the blocks. He wasn’t as quick as his Dad (Kevin) though who set the fastest lap until Dan bettered it in his last stint.
The Bike Insurer director, Phil Wilding, was third out and all was well until another rider went down in front of him. Fortunately the video camera was running as Phil made a soft landing on top of the luckless rider.
Rounding out the team for The Bike Insurer was Joseph Fielding who had been demoted to the anchor leg after forgetting to put fuel in last time out in Anglesey.
All in all, the team did enough to triumph in our Class and claim the first piece of silverware for the office.
We will have a video up and on the site soon!
